Zype Raises $2 Million, Helps You Distribute, Monetize Video on Amazon Fire, Apple TV

Zype, an over-the-top (OTT) video distribution service based in NYC just announced that it has raised $2 million in seed funding. This is in addition to the $1.6 million it raised last October, bringing its total round of funding to $3.6 million.

Zype's new seed round was by Revel Partners with participation from Meridian Ventures, Alpine Entrepreneurs Investment Fund, Berlin Ventures, Point Nine Capital and Terrapin Bale Ventures. The startup intends to use the funds for research and development with some money going to sales and marketing initiatives.

Launched in 2014 by founder and CEO Ed Laczynski, the company provides cloud video distribution for OTT featuring push button app publishing, audience management, analytics, monetization as well as streaming.

“Zype offers a simple, powerful, scalable solution for enterprises that want to build a direct-to-consumer video business,” said Laczynski in a press release. “Our customers love that we've taken the existing complex video business supply chain and ecosystem and made it easy to drive successful results. The enthusiastic support of the investment community, coupled with the staggering growth we've experienced over the last year, is a testament to the voracious appetite of video distribution and marketing leaders to own their data, own their audience and have full control of their revenue.”

The service is not so different from Uscreen - a platform that lets businesses create their very own video streaming and subscription channels to sell content - or Amazon's Video Direct which allows you to earn royalties for sharing syndicated video content, webinars and videos with millions of Amazon Prime members.

But unlike some of its competitors, Zype offers you the ability to distribute your video over a variety of platforms like Amazon Five TV, Apple TV and more. You will also be able to view analytics in a single dashboard about how all your videos are performing no matter where they may be distributed.

“Zype was created to address the pain points of multi-platform publishing and it's becoming the cloud video service of choice for content owners seeking a one-click solution to publish their content and manage their subscribers, while keeping up with the proliferation of new platforms that seem to pop up every month,” said Chris Young , partner at Revel Partners.

Zype's subscription may look a bit pricey starting at $99 per month, but that's comparable to Uscreen for a comparable service.

As online online video continues to become more important for brands and more competitive, Zype offers one more potential tool for you to use in a effort to reach your target customer.
